Challenge
Improving the global environment continues to grow in importance. The continuous reduction of pollution generated by gas and diesel engines is one of the most important goals for the automotive industry.  Within these gases, reduction of N-Ox is a priority.

Solution
A solution to reduce the N-Ox content,  consists of injecting special catalysts into the exhaust gases.  Typically used substances are ammonium chloride (in water solutions) or urea. In both cases they combine with the N-Ox transforming it into neutral and non-polluting gases, like N2 and H2O.
Client endorsment
Within the SCR systems (Selective Catalyst Reduction) that injects chemicals like urea or ammonium chloride, an electronic control unit having special sensors is needed.  One sensor has to measure the pressure of the dispensed urea or ammonium chloride. These substances are particularly chemically aggressive; therefore the pressure sensor cell needed to be made from a chemically resistant material such as ceramic. The ceramic pressure sensor made by Metallux SA met all customer performance requirements by providing an exceptional chemical resistance to aggressive media in addition to having an extended working temperature range, at extreme conditions.
